One party wants a global strategy that will never get off ground in a world filled with deniers. I would rather a million small plans to grab up what we can than an immense global strategy to fight over indefinitely. Citizens from both parties enjoy local forests, rivers, lakes, beaches, and deserts. We all enjoy the bounties of nature and want to preserve them for future generations. Why do we engage in a endless battle over a failed global strategy? Let's focus on creating numerous smaller more localized natural restoration projects that show citizens real results in their own neighborhoods.
I for one would love to see the long lost herds native to our nation return. Our interstates need an upgrade. Why not upgrade the interstate system to include a high speed rail and wildlife crossings? It is a safety precaution that prevents major accidents. If we can replenish our herds it would draw in tourism from hunters all around the world. It could bring in economic growth to the fly over states so often ignored by both parties.
Something as crucial to our existence must be sustainable. Our farmers can't afford to start over from scratch. The government's responsibility is to safeguard our way of life and that includes our food supply. The government can be used to provide loans to upgrade farms to be more sustainable using modern technology that is more environmentally responsible. These loans can be paid back in market value food donations to schools, prisons, and military facilities.
Plastic recycling centers would be upgraded to auto scan codes placed on plastic products that can be recycled and reused. Phone applications can be used by citizens to scan the codes and gain credit on their accounts once the same code is confirmed at the recycling center later on. This is a reward system for making sure the plastic you use can be recycled and that it gets recycled. The credit will be a cryptocurrency that has a value tied to the weight of plastic collected over time. The amount of the currency awarded will be determined by the weight listed in the information in the code. Plastic companies that produce single use plastics will be required to purchase plastic currency annually. The amounts required to purchase will be based on their annual production of non recyclable plastics. These credits can be traded by these plastic companies to the government in exchange for grants that provide the upgrades needed to make their products out of recycled plastic. Any citizen willing to clean up the natural spaces we all want preserved for future generations can own and trade plastic credits.
Light pollution harms many species of birds and turtles. This is easily resolved by requiring lighting be covered and aimed at the specific area being illuminated. Some land must be set aside for nesting and migrating species free of lights. This will also preserve the beauty of the night sky in some of the most beautiful landscapes in our nation.
